Genuine Love

"'And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.""  Mat 22:37-40. Love is the foundation of the Christian life.  First of course we are to love God with all we are.  Mar 12:30 says "And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with Read more [...]

Lead them to Believe

Recently I was teaching some friends from the book of Romans chapter 1  When I got to verse 5, someone asked a very intriguing question.  At first the answer seemed pretty obvious but as I thought about it, I knew I had to be careful.  The question was, "If we are talking to an unbeliever and we bring up verses that condemn behaviors they indulge in, are we judging them or is the Bible?" This ignited a very robust discussion.  I listened intently and was praying for wisdom at the same time. Read more [...]

Thinking of Others – Our Enemies

Our Focus Scripture -"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." Php 2:3  ESV. In part five of this six part series, we shall look at our focus scripture as, "In humility, count your enemies more significant than ourselves.  I will not mince any words here.  This is probably the most difficult of all the others we have looked at so far.  I find it difficult to do this.  However, as with other commands God has given us, we really Read more [...]

The Christians Purpose

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Mat 28:19-20 Why are we here?  I do not mean all mankind, but us Christians.  Think about it.  We have accepted the salvation God has provided for us through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  And because of our decision, we have a Read more [...]

The Amazing Grace of God

I know it has been a while since I have posted a new blog entry.  But there has been much going on, both good and not so good.  But I do not want this to be so much about me, but about the grace of our Almighty God This has been a very difficult time for me.  I have been up and have been down, but have spent little time in the middle.  I have such a passion to teach people about the truths found in the scriptures, helping them to understand the depth of this Christian life.  I also Read more [...]

Is it belief

"Jesus said to him, 'Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.'"  John 20:29 If you ask any Christian if they believe there is a Heaven, he will most likely say "Yes".  And if you were to ask any Christian if God loves them, you would probably get the same answer.  We have been taught all our lives that Heaven is a real place and that God loves us.  We say with little hesitation that we believe the words of the bible are true, and Read more [...]

Doing Good

"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves."  Php 2:3 A couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time to redo my office and study.  It had devolved into such dis-array I never wanted to come down here.  However, now that I, with the help of my family and Brandon, a good friend of our family, have been able to bring order out of chaos, I am back now doing some of things I love, reading, writing, and just enjoying quiet and de-stressing Read more [...]

Our Testimonies

“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,”  2 Tim 1:8. What comes to mind when you think of someone’s testimony?  If you were to ask some people, they would say that it is their story on how they became a believer and follower of Christ.  And they would be correct, sort of.  That is a part of what a testimony is.  But our testimony is anything we have seen or experienced that proclaims Read more [...]

God over Time

"Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,'"  Isa 46:8-10 God is beyond time, yet He communicates to us in references to time so we can more easily comprehend His meanings.  In His desire for us to understand Read more [...]

Cafeteria God

"Thus says the LORD: 'Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.'"  Jer 9:23-24 I love buffets.  I like going to restaurants that allow me to select the food I want, in the quantities I want, and go back Read more [...]
