Stand Strong in these Days

"But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron," 1 Timothy 4:1-2 I believe that we are in the last days prior to the return of Jesus the Christ.  So much evil in this world and it is only going deeper into the darkness.  We see many countries with terribly evil leadership who care nothing about the citizens Read more [...]

Transform Not Conform

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."  Romans 12:2 What is happening to much of the church today?  It seems we are leaving the teachings scripture and bowing to the desires of the world.  And the main reason I believe this is happening is due to church leadership fearing people will leave, and thus are teaching what they believe will keep their members Read more [...]

Speak Graciously

"Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person." Colossians 4:5-6 I am saddened when I see the hatred being portrayed in the mass shootings that occurred this past weekend in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas.  As a side note, according to the standards of the federal government, at least four victims must be killed using a firearm Read more [...]

Stand Firm

"Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." 1 Cor 15:58 This post will be shorter than most, however, it needs to be said.  First, let me present a quote that I saw on the internet that I believe is worth sharing.  "A lie doesn't become truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good, just because it's accepted by a majority."  Booker T. Washington.  This is an incredibly Read more [...]

Lead them to Believe

Recently I was teaching some friends from the book of Romans chapter 1  When I got to verse 5, someone asked a very intriguing question.  At first the answer seemed pretty obvious but as I thought about it, I knew I had to be careful.  The question was, "If we are talking to an unbeliever and we bring up verses that condemn behaviors they indulge in, are we judging them or is the Bible?" This ignited a very robust discussion.  I listened intently and was praying for wisdom at the same time. Read more [...]

True Christians Do

"So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." Jam 2:17. Joe calls himself a farmer.  He has incredible knowledge of good farming and fertilization practices.  He reads many books in order to learn all the new techniques to grow more produce each year without increasing the size of his farm.  He is very proud of what he has learned and shares his knowledge with anyone he can.  However, there is a serious problem with Joe.  In all the years he has had his farm, he has Read more [...]

Looking Beyond our Sight

"But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, 'Lord, save me.'"  Mat 14:30 This verse comes from a very familiar passage where Jesus comes walking upon the sea to the boat where the disciples were.  After Peter recognizes who He is, he tells Jesus to command him to go on the water and walk to Him.  When Jesus did, he immediately got out of the boat and walked out to Jesus.  However, when he looked around and saw the wind and the rough waters, he began to sink Read more [...]

We Are Not Who We Were

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."  2 Cor 5:17 This past weekend, I received an interesting question I have heard many times before, and have tried to answer, but out of a sense of humility, the answer is not readily accepted.  "How important is it, for a Christian, to tell God when we pray how terrible and unworthy we are?". This seems like a reasonable thing to do.  We want to be humble before God, and what a better Read more [...]

Is it belief

"Jesus said to him, 'Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.'"  John 20:29 If you ask any Christian if they believe there is a Heaven, he will most likely say "Yes".  And if you were to ask any Christian if God loves them, you would probably get the same answer.  We have been taught all our lives that Heaven is a real place and that God loves us.  We say with little hesitation that we believe the words of the bible are true, and Read more [...]

Are We Worthy of Him

"And who ever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." Mat 10:38 When we say we are a Christian, what does that mean? Does it simply mean we went to the alter and said a prayer?  Does it mean we go to church every week, read our bibles and devotionals, and say a prayer every day?  Does it mean we come from a Christian home and inherited our Christianity? I think not.  But to answer the question, let me start from the beginning. How are we saved?  Paul says in his letter Read more [...]
