Stand Firm

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” 1 Cor 15:58

This post will be shorter than most, however, it needs to be said.  First, let me present a quote that I saw on the internet that I believe is worth sharing.  “A lie doesn’t become truth, wrong doesn’t become right, and evil doesn’t become good, just because it’s accepted by a majority.”  Booker T. Washington.  This is an incredibly wise statement which shows me, sadly, that wisdom is in danger of being set aside in favor of opportunity.

We all are aware of the Brett Kavanaugh situation.  It is an incredibly polarizing issue where one side believes Brett is telling the truth while the other side believes he is lying.  The fact that one party is so entrenched in their view while the other side is equally entrenched in their’s, tells me their are agendas behind it all which seem to overshadow truth.  We should be more interested in what is true rather than what is in it for us.  And this is not the only place we find this.  We see it in so many areas, especially where it gives one side an advantage over their opponents.

However, as Christians this is not the behavior we should accept for ourselves or any brother or sister in Christ.  Truth is just that, truth.  We must be willing to stand up for it no matter the cost, be it to our advantage or detriment.  If we have done something wrong then we must be willing to stand up and say so, not letting anyone else take the blame.  Cheating does not become right just because we gain an advantage.  And murder is never good just because we get satisfaction from it, even if we did not do it ourselves.  Truth is not relative.  If it were, there would be no truth at all.  Right is always right and wrong is always wrong.  And evil is never good, and good is never evil.  And why is that?

Because the basis of all truth, goodness and righteousness is God; the unchanging and eternal God.  He created everything there is.  John put it this way.  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God  , and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. … And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  John 1:1-3, 14.  He created everything and set it in motion.  However, He also made some absolute declarations.  He declared what is true, what is right, and what is good.  And He made them known to us by His word which He gave to us in the form of the scriptures, both old and new testaments.  And because of this, we have no excuse.  We are called to present to a watching world all that God has communicated to us.  Those things being, in our context here, what is true, right and good with no compromise, hesitation or question.  Jesus did when He was here, and we are called to do the same.

In closing, it is important to understand that the Truth is worth standing up and fighting for;  Right, is worth standing up and fighting for and Good is worth standing up and fighting for,  And it must be done no matter the cost.  Remember the focus verse, Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.  Our work for the Lord is never in vain.  And part of our work is, as Francis Schaeffer would say, is presenting True Truth, True Righteousness and True Goodness.  Many times this will be difficult, and may seem to be to our detriment.  However, when are are faithful to God in ALL things, nothing will be detrimental in the end.  Remember what Paul said to the Church at Rome.  “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”  Rom 8:28.

  1. "The fact that one party is so entrenched in their view while the other side is equally entrenched in their’s, tells me their are agendas behind it all which seem to overshadow truth."
    How true!

    • And sad at the same time. I am praying that civility will once again be part of the debate and that true truth will prevail, not necessarily what what we want truth to be.

  2. I agree. There is another quote 'The only thing necessary for evil to prosper is for good men/women to do nothing'. Also, "If you are lukewarm, I spew you out of my mouth". Also, "if salt has lost its savor, it is good for nothing". I am active in several Christian / Political organizations, such as the American Family Association, and the Family Research Council. I encourage other Christians to check them out. Perhaps, the current spiritual struggle is "OUR FINEIST HOUR". If not now , when?

    • We need to be a light in the world, showing the truth with no hesitation. It is the only way that God is glorified in this political firestorm we find ourselves in.

I would love to hear your thoughts.
